2012 Information to be updated March 2012
LETTER DROP TWO | Update October 2011
We write to inform you that the application to the District Council to close the road adjacent to your property has been approved. The road will be CLOSED for a special stage of RALLY of the NORTH for a period on Saturday 15th October 2011. See over for map giving full details.
THANK YOU
We do understand that road closures can cause inconvenience and the organisers and competitors thank all residents and local road users very much for the opportunity to use the roads, considered some of the best roads in the country. In conjunction with the Rally, local groups have the opportunity to raise funds through food stalls, marshalling etc. Businesses involved in providing accommodation, food and servicing, also benefit from the influx of a large number of additional people to the district over a two day period as a result of the Rally.
HOW THE EVENT PROCEEDS
Prior to competitors entering the stage, a police car and various Rally ‘Safety’ cars with sirens and flashing lights will check the stage for clearance and when satisfied for safety the first competitive car will start and travel the stage, at high speed. Then up to 60+ competing cars will continue to start at one minute intervals. Please be aware that the time between cars at your point may vary as faster cars catch and pass slower cars, and there may also be long gaps if cars break down. After all of the competitors have completed the stage, a ‘Sweeper’ Car identified with door banners and flashing lights will travel the stage, re-opening the road to normal traffic. This will normally be earlier than the time advertised.
PLEASE, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES
PROCEED ON TO THE ROAD WHILE IT IS CLOSED.
Rally cars may be travelling at high speed, at
varying intervals, and will expect a clear road.
SPECTATING
If spectating, please stand back from the side of the road and avoid standing where the rally cars may need an ‘escape’. Please keep dogs on a lead and any ‘highly strung’ or sensitive animals should be moved away from the roadside, if at all possible.
ROAD / PUBLIC / EVENT SAFETY
Police, fire and ambulance have been advised of the rally, and the roads being closed, as are power, transport and vet services. Road signs will be erected and it is suggested that any visitors you may be expecting on the day, be advised of the road closure. The rally is supervised by the National Sporting Organisation, Motorsport New Zealand Inc and is subject to a strict Safety Code. As part of these requirements, all driveways and access ways will be closed with ‘Danger Tape’ and at side roads a marshal will also be in attendance. Safety services include a first aid team at the start of each stage, and control marshals at the start and finish of all stages (Closed Roads) will be in direct radio contact with our rally base, who co-ordinate the running of the rally.
OROMAHOE ROAD – Safety Taping
Please note, for stage ONE, Oromahoe, we will be doing safety taping of the stage late Friday night. We will not close off your driveway, but merely tie the tape to one side so the next morning the taping crews will only need tie the other side up after road closure. We ask for your assistance in not removing it.
IN AN EMERGENCY
These safety services are available for any unexpected emergency involving your family and in that instance please phone our Emergency Telephone Number 0800 RALLYE to speak with the Clerk of Course (who has responsibility for the safety of the rally) who can arrange suitable action.
ROAD DAMAGE
A Road Damage Bond is held by the District Council and Public Liability Insurance ($10,000,000) is in place. If any fences are damaged due to rally vehicles please ring local fencing contractor Dennis Gray on Sunday 10th October on (09) 407 8186 or 0274 393 875 to arrange repair. Dennis is not available on the Saturday as he is involved with the event! For any other property damage please call Anita Greenland on either of the numbers below. LETTER DROP ONE | Update March 2011
The Northern Sports Car Club is running the annual RALLY of the NORTH this year on Saturday 15th October 2011 and is planning to use the road adjacent to your property as one of the closed road competition stages. We understand that Road Closures do cause some inconvenience and we will continue to do all we can to minimise the inconvenience as much as possible, so we have provided some information below about the event.
WHY THE LETTER?
To ensure you, the property owner or resident knows what is happening we deliver over 1500 letters to affected properties. This notification letter is to advise you that we have applied to the Far North District Council, to temporarily close the roads as detailed on the map [link below], to all normal traffic. The road closure time shown is the maximum required and the road can be expected to re-open earlier than stated. The Local Community Boards will consider the applications at their meetings in May. The exact date for your particular Community Board will be advertised locally and further information concerning the consideration of the application can be obtained from: Far North District Council, Tel 0800 920 029. Or you can download the initial residents letter - ROTN2011_FirstResidentsLetter
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU?
Your road will be closed to all traffic for a 4 hour period besides the competing rally cars. During the time the road is closed, Rally Cars will negotiate the course at one-minute intervals, at speed, timed against the clock. When not on the Closed Roads, travelling between the Special Stages, the competitors must abide by the normal Rode Code, in all respects.
WE SEEK YOUR SUPPORT OF THE EVENT
The rally has been using various roads around the Far North district now for over 25 years, and over that time we have involved the community in every event. So we seek your support for this event, which benefits the Far North through National publicity and the provision of local accommodation, food and services for up to 1000 visitors. We make direct donations to local schools and service clubs who assist with the running of the Rally, and others have the opportunity to raise funds with food stalls for the competitors, service crews and officials. If you or your family wish to be involved in some way on the day, then please feel free to get in touch, as we welcome any helpers on the day to ensure the event is run smoothly and safely.
ZERO WASTE POLICY
Behind the event we have a team of recovery and cleaning crews. Their sole task is to ensure that we leave NO rubbish behind after the event has moved through your area. If for some reason you find some safety tape or event rubbish has been left behind, please let us know so we can improve our procedures and further minimize our impact on the local environment.
ROAD / PUBLIC / EVENT SAFETY
The organisers and competitors are governed by a strict Motorsport Safety Code and are supervised by officials from the National body, the New Zealand Motorsport Association. A comprehensive Public Liability Insurance arranged through the Motorsport Association is in place to cover any property damage, which may occur, due to the Rally.
An extensive radio communication network is used to control the event with officials at the Start and Finish of each Special Stage as well as at all intersections on the Closed Roads. A First Aid unit is stationed at the Start of each Stage and all official emergency services are advised of the event and Road Closures. An 0800 RALLYE, direct telephone number is arranged for you to contact the Rally Base in the event that any unexpected emergency affecting your family arises during the Road Closure.
NEXT STEPS
When Council has considered the application, further detailed advice will be given to you directly by another letter drop advising you of the times of the closure, signs will also be erected on the roads, and there will be general Newspaper and Media publicity.
